8-Day Morocco Desert & Geological Tour

Day 1: Errachidia → Dades Valley
Arrival at Errachidia Airport. Drive through Gulmima, Tinjdad, and Tinghir. Visit the spectacular Todra Gorges and continue to Dades Gorges. Overnight in a riad or hotel in Boumalne Dades.

Day 2: Dades Valley → Ait Ben Haddou
After breakfast, travel through the beautiful Dades Valley, known as the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Stop in Kalaat M’Gouna (Rose City) and visit Amridil Kasbah. Continue to Ouarzazate to see Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Studios. Overnight in Ait Ben Haddou.

Day 3: Ait Ben Haddou → Zagora
Drive to Zagora via Agdez and the scenic Draa Valley. Visit the pottery village of Tamegroute. Overnight in Zagora.

Day 4: Zagora → Tafraoute Sidi Ali
Travel through remote desert landscapes via Mejran and Kem Kem. Meet nomadic families along the way. Overnight in a desert camp or riad in Tafraoute Sidi Ali.

Day 5: Geological Exploration Day
Full day exploring the region:

  • Jebel Zireg & Jebel Ras Khemmouna (mines and panoramic views)
  • Jebel Mrakib & Jebel Otfal (trilobite fossils)
  • Fossils such as bryozoans and ancient marine life
  • Ksar Ba Hallou (abandoned village)
  • Foum Mharech (dunes, oasis, mountains)
  • Kem Kem Beds (dinosaur fossils like Abelisaur)

End the day in Tafraoute N’Ait Khebach. Overnight stay.

Day 6: Tafraoute → Merzouga
Drive to Merzouga via Ramlia. Stop to see ancient rock carvings. Overnight in Merzouga (riad or desert camp).

Day 7: Merzouga Desert Experience
Explore the Sahara and Erg Chebbi dunes. Visit nomads, enjoy Gnawa music, and take a camel ride at sunset. Overnight in a desert camp.

Day 8: Merzouga → Errachidia
Early sunrise camel ride. After breakfast, drive back to Errachidia via Rissani, Erfoud, and Ziz Valley. Drop-off at the airport.
