8-Day Morocco Desert & Geological Tour
On Day 1, you will begin your journey from Errachidia airport and drive through Gulmima, Tinjdad, and Tinghir. Along the way, you will visit the breathtaking Todra Gorges and Boumalne Dades Gorges. You will spend the night in a Riad or hotel in Boumalne Dades.
On Day 2, after breakfast, you will continue through the Dades Valley, also known as Asif N’Dades in Berber. This valley, often called the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs,” is perfect for photography and offers stunning landscapes. You will stop at Kalaat Mgouna, the “Rose City,” to purchase fragrant rosewater, and visit the historic Amridil Kasbah, home to the Glaoui family. The journey continues to Ouarzazate, where you will explore Kasbah Taourirt and the famous Atlas Studios, before heading to Ait Ben Haddou for an overnight stay.
On Day 3, you will travel from Ait Ben Haddou to Zagora, passing through Ait Saoune, Agdez, the scenic Draa Valley, and the Tamegroute pottery village. You will arrive in Zagora and spend the night in a Riad or hotel.
On Day 4, you will leave Zagora and drive to Tafraoute Sidi Ali through Mejran and Kem-Kem, stopping to meet nomadic families along the way. You will arrive in Tafraoute Sidi Ali and spend the night in a desert camp or Riad.
Day 5 is a full day of exploration around Tafraoute Sidi Ali. You will start with Jebel Zireg and Jebel Ras Khemmouna, mountain ridges offering panoramic views and historic mining sites of lead, barite, and copper. Then you will visit Jebel Mrakib and Jebel Otfal, famous for trilobite fossils such as Metacanthina maderensis. You will also discover fossilized Bryozoans and learn about the ancient life they represent. The tour continues to Ksar Ba Hallou, an abandoned stone village in the desert, and Foum Mharech, a region of dunes, oases, and mountains. You will explore the Kem Kem Beds, known for fossilized remains of the Abelisaur, a 30-foot long predatory dinosaur. Finally, you will arrive in Tafraoute N’Ait Khebach village to relax, explore Berber nomadic life, and spend the night.
On Day 6, after breakfast, you will drive from Tafraoute Sidi Ali to Merzouga via Ramlia, stopping to see centuries-old stone inscriptions along the way. You will arrive in Merzouga for the night in a desert camp or Riad.
On Day 7, you will explore the Sahara Desert. You will visit Merzouga village and the Erg Chebbi dunes, meet nomadic families, enjoy traditional Gnawa music, and take a camel ride through the dunes at sunset. You will spend the night in a desert camp.
On Day 8, you will start early with a sunrise camel ride before returning to your hotel for breakfast and a shower. You will then drive back to Errachidia, passing through the traditional market of Rissani, the fossil city of Erfoud, and the Ziz Valley, concluding your tour at Errachidia Airport.
