9 Days Camel Trek in the Erg Chegaga Dunes
A fantastic way to explore the exotic charm of the Sahara Desert, this 9-day adventure combines scenic drives, cultural encounters, and an unforgettable camel trekking experience through the wild dunes of southern Morocco.
Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi N’Test – Taliouine
After breakfast, departure from Marrakech towards Taliouine via the Berber village of Asni and the Ouirgane Valley. Cross the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi N’Test pass (2,260 m), with stops to enjoy stunning landscapes. Lunch in a local restaurant, then continue to Taliouine, famous for its saffron. Overnight at hotel.
Day 2: Taliouine – Taznakht – Foum Zguid – Lake Iriki – Sahara Desert
Morning departure via Taznakht to Foum Zguid. After lunch, continue towards the Sahara, crossing the dry Lake Iriki and vast desert plateaus dotted with acacia trees. Arrival in Erg Chegaga dunes (Abed Lia area). Meet your camel guide, set up camp, and enjoy dinner under the stars or in a nomadic tent.
Day 3: Abed Lia – Khert Lgerzi
After breakfast, begin your camel trek (approx. 4 hours) through part of the Erg Chegaga dunes. Lunch break near nomadic watering points. Continue trekking (approx. 2 hours) to Khert Lgerzi. Overnight in camp.
Day 4: Khert Lgerzi – Erg Sedra
Continue trekking through the heart of the desert (approx. 4 hours). Lunch break, then walk another 2 hours to reach Erg Sedra. Overnight in camp.
Day 5: Erg Sedra – Erg Zehar
Walk towards Erg Zehar, known as the “Dunes of Luck.” Tea break under an acacia tree, followed by lunch (approx. 4 hours total). Continue trekking (approx. 2 hours) to the dunes. Overnight in camp.
Day 6: Erg Zehar – Sidi Naji
Depart Erg Zehar (approx. 4 hours walking). Lunch break in a peaceful desert setting. Continue (approx. 2 hours) to Sidi Naji, where a historic marabout tomb is visited by nomads. Overnight camp.
Day 7: Sidi Naji – M’Hamid El Ghizlane
Final trekking day through the changing desert landscapes of Reg Bousnina (approx. 4 hours). Lunch stop along the way. Arrival in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, marking the end of the camel trek.
Day 8: M’Hamid – Tamegroute – Zagora – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, drive via Zagora with a stop in Tamegroute to visit the palm grove and traditional sites. Continue through the Draa Valley to Ouarzazate. Overnight in hotel.
Day 9: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Morning visit of Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Film Studios. Continue to Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO World Heritage site), followed by lunch in the village. Return to Marrakech عبر Tizi N’Tichka pass (2,260 m). End of the tour.
