Marvel at the 40-ton rocks standing alone in a vast tract of open land. A feat of engineering and design dating back nearly 5,000 years, the curious Stonehenge structure continues to divide historians as to its precise purpose. Theories include that Stonehenge was a temple to the sun, an elaborate cemetery, and even that Merlin had a giant build the structure for him. The trip met our expectations, even if it took a little longer than originally planned (usual traffic jam on the return journey). The absolute highlight, besides the stones of course, was our driver. He not only provided us with information, but also with facts outside of the actual topic. Very entertaining and yet educational, it couldn’t be better.

The driver was really very nice, he told us anecdotes about the streets, monuments, places of London during the journeys. Be careful, it takes a little over 2 hours to get there and 3 hours to return given the traffic. We have about 3 hours there, which is more than enough. There is an application that allows you to have the audio guide, and buses that take you to the stones. If not, it takes 30 minutes to walk to get there. Top activity.

Very positive point: the Stonehenge site is magnificent! Positive point: Simple and efficient excursion: direct transport back and forth and entry to the site. Well-adapted time on site, neither too long nor too short. Negative point: No guide, no explanation: we weren’t surprised, but it could have been interesting if someone told us that it was possible to download a free Stonehenge audio guide… Very negative point : We had taken the “Fish and chips” option (knowing that we were leaving at 10:35 a.m. and returning at 5:45 p.m.) so we said to ourselves that we could have our little lunch there. In fact, this option is a good one for a restaurant in London outside of the business!! Not for the restaurant located at Stonehenge! We did it in the evening, after the return, but we would have liked it to be clearly specified in the announcement, which was not the case…
