Fes to Marrakech: 3-Day Desert & Atlas Mountains Tour
Experience Morocco’s most stunning landscapes on this 3-day journey from Fes to Marrakech, traveling through the Middle Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, and the legendary Kasbahs.
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
We start from Fes, the historic imperial city. Our route takes us through Ifrane, often called “Moroccan Switzerland,” and Azrou, where we stop at the Cedar Forest to see the playful Barbary apes.
From there, we continue south through scenic Berber villages, forests, and mountains. Around midday, we stop in Midelt for lunch. Afterward, we cross the Atlas Mountains and make our way to Errachidia and Erfoud, the gateway to the desert.
In the late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara. Here, you will enjoy a camel ride into the dunes to watch the sunset, followed by sandboarding. Dinner and overnight will be in traditional Berber tents under a spectacular starry sky.
Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Tinejdad – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Wake up early to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After returning by camel, you can freshen up and enjoy breakfast at your hotel.
We then drive to Rissani, known for its lively animal souk. Next, we visit Erfoud, famous for its fossil marble, and explore a local marble workshop. After lunch in Tinejdad, we continue to Todra Gorge for a short walk among its dramatic rock walls, some reaching 160 meters.
The day ends with a scenic drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, arriving in Dades Valley for dinner and overnight at a hotel or riad.
Day 3: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast, we explore the Dades Gorges and their unique rock formations. The journey continues through the Valley of Roses to Kalaa M’gouna and Skoura, visiting the 17th-century Kasbah of Amridil.
Next, we reach Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” with a stop at the Atlas Film Studios. Then we visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a famous backdrop for films such as Gladiator and Babel. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we cross the Tizi N’Tichka Pass (2,260 m) and descend into Marrakech, where the tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation.
