5 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

We will start this tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, traveling through the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via Ouarzazate.

This journey takes you on an unforgettable expedition through southern Morocco, passing traditional Berber villages and stunning landscapes. Along the way, you will explore remarkable attractions including UNESCO World Heritage sites, historic kasbahs, and lush valleys.

Highlights include visiting Aït Benhaddou, discovering Ouarzazate—known as the “Hollywood of Africa”—and stopping at the famous Atlas Studios. You will also explore Taourirt Kasbah, the Palm Groves, Roses Valley, and Dades Valley.

The tour continues to the Sahara Desert in Merzouga, where you will enjoy a camel trekking experience and spend a magical night in a Berber tent in the middle of the dunes of Erg Chebbi. You will also explore the area, meet nomads, and visit traditional Berber villages.

The return journey takes a different route through Berber towns such as Alnif, Nkob, and Agdez, with visits to Kasbah Tamnougalt and the scenic Draa Valley before heading back to Marrakech.

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Aït Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

After meeting at the agreed location, we begin our journey across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m altitude). We will stop to admire spectacular landscapes and visit an Argan oil cooperative.

After lunch at a local restaurant, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Benhaddou. We then continue to Dades Valley for dinner and overnight accommodation in a traditional hotel or riad.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Tinghir – Touroug – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast, we explore the Dades Valley, including the famous rock formations known as “Monkey Fingers” and the historic Kasbah of Aït Youl.

We continue towards Tinghir and Todra Gorge, where you can walk beneath impressive 300-meter-high cliffs. After lunch in Touroug, we head to Erfoud and Rissani before arriving in Merzouga, where you will be welcomed with mint tea and check into your accommodation.

Day 3: Merzouga – Nomads – Camel Trek – Desert Camp

After breakfast, we explore the Merzouga region, visiting nomadic families and a village known for its traditional Gnawa music. We also visit the seasonal lake of Merzouga, home to various bird species including flamingos.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy a camel trek across the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Spend the night in a desert camp under the stars, with dinner and traditional entertainment.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Nkob – Agdez – Ouarzazate

After watching the sunrise and breakfast, we return by camel to Merzouga. We then travel back to Ouarzazate through Berber villages including Alnif, Tazarine, Nkob, and Agdez, passing through the beautiful Draa Valley.

Overnight stay in Ouarzazate.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – High Atlas – Marrakech

After visiting the film studios in Ouarzazate, we head back to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying panoramic views along the way. Arrival in Marrakech in the evening.
