5 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Fes via Merzouga

We will start this unforgettable journey from Marrakech to Merzouga, crossing the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via Ouarzazate. Along the way, you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Ait Ben Haddou, explore Ouarzazate—known as “The Hollywood of Africa”—and stop for photos at the famous Atlas Studios.

You will continue through the beautiful Roses Valley and Dades Valley before reaching the magical dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga. Enjoy a camel trek, spend a night in a Berber desert camp, and discover nomadic life.

The journey continues towards Fes, passing through Rissani, Erfoud, the stunning Ziz Valley, Midelt, Azrou, and Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.”

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

After meeting at the agreed location, we begin our journey جنوب شرق عبر جبال الأطلس الكبير، crossing the Tizi n’Tichka (2,260 m).

We will:

  • Enjoy panoramic views and Berber villages
  • Visit Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO site since 1986)
  • Stop for lunch at a local restaurant

In the afternoon, we continue to Ouarzazate, visit Atlas Studios, and explore Taourirt Kasbah.

Dinner & overnight in Ouarzazate

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Kelaat M’Gouna – Dades Valley

After breakfast:

  • Drive through Skoura
  • Visit the 17th-century Kasbah Amridil
  • Continue to Kelaat M’Gouna (Valley of Roses)

You will:

  • Meet nomadic families living in caves
  • Enjoy traditional mint tea
  • Have lunch in a local restaurant

Then continue to Dades Valley.

Dinner & overnight in a hotel

Day 3: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast:

  • Head to Todra Gorge via Tinghir
  • Stop for panoramic views along the way
  • Lunch in a local restaurant

In the afternoon:

  • Pass through Erfoud and Rissani
  • Arrive at Merzouga

Overnight in hotel near the dunes

Day 4: Merzouga Desert Experience (Erg Chebbi)

Today is dedicated to exploring the desert:

  • Visit Khamlia (Gnawa music village)
  • Meet nomadic families and discover their lifestyle
  • Visit fossil sites

In the afternoon:

  • Return to the hotel to relax
  • Enjoy a camel trek (1h30) across Erg Chebbi
  • Watch the sunset and try sandboarding

Dinner & overnight in a desert camp under the stars with Berber music

Day 5: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

Early morning:

  • Sunrise over the dunes
  • Camel ride back to the hotel

Then:

  • Drive via Ziz Valley
  • Stop in Midelt for lunch
  • Visit Cedar Forest of Azrou to see monkeys
  • Pass through Ifrane

Arrival in Fes and drop-off at your accommodation
