8-Day Morocco Tour: Marrakech to Erg Chebbi Desert and Back
This 8-day tour takes you from Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains to the Erg Chebbi Desert. Explore historic kasbahs, beautiful valleys, Berber villages, and the Sahara, with camel trekking, desert camping, and unforgettable landscapes.
Day 1 – Arrival in Marrakech
Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to relax and explore the city at your own pace. In the evening, stroll through the vibrant Jemaa el-Fnaa square and nearby souks. Overnight stay in a hotel or riad.
Day 2 – Exploring Marrakech
After breakfast, enjoy a private guided tour of the Marrakech Medina. Visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the lively souks, Ali Ben Youssef Koranic School, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and Majorelle Gardens. Spend the evening at leisure soaking in the city’s atmosphere. Overnight in a riad in the Medina.
Day 3 – Marrakech to Ouarzazate via Telouet and Aït Benhaddou
After breakfast, depart Marrakech and cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains and traditional Berber villages. Stop for lunch in the oasis at Telouet and visit the historic Telouet Kasbah, home to the Glaoui family. Continue to the UNESCO-listed Aït Benhaddou Kasbah, and optionally visit Atlas Studios, one of Africa’s largest movie studios. Arrive in Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 – Ouarzazate to Dades Valley via Skoura and Kelaa M’Gouna
After breakfast, drive towards Tinghir, passing Kasbah Taourirt and the lush palm oasis of Skoura, where you can visit Kasbah Amerhidil. Continue to Kelaa M’Gouna, the Valley of Roses, for lunch. Travel along the “Mil Kasbah” route by 4×4, passing Berber villages and possibly meeting local nomads living in caves. Arrive in Dades Valley for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 – Dades Valley to Merzouga Desert via Todra Gorge
After breakfast, explore the stunning Todra Gorges, then walk among the palm trees in Tinghir Oasis. Have lunch in Touroug and continue via Arfoud, known for marble and fossils. Arrive in Merzouga, where camel caravans await to take you into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy a traditional Berber dinner with music under the stars and spend the night in a camel-hair tent in the desert.
Day 6 – Merzouga to Ouarzazate via Rissani, Alnif, Tazarine, and Draa Valley
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. Return to Merzouga by camel and have breakfast. Travel to Rissani, explore its ksours, kasbahs, and the Zaouia of Ali El-Charif, and wander through the traditional souks. Continue through Alnif, Tazarine, and the scenic Draa Valley, arriving in Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7 – Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Tizi n’Tichka Pass
After breakfast, depart Ouarzazate and cross the High Atlas Mountains again via Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Stop in the Berber village of Taddart for lunch and enjoy the stunning mountain views along the way. Arrive in Marrakech for dinner and overnight stay in a hotel or riad.
Day 8 – Departure from Marrakech
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
