About Tangier
Tangier, the capital of the Tétouan Region, has a rich history shaped by centuries of civilizations and cultures. Situated at the western entrance of the Strait of Gibraltar, Tangier marks the meeting point of the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean at Cape Spartel.
Just 35 minutes from Spain by hydrofoil (or 2 hours by regular ferry), Tangier is a multicultural city predominantly Muslim, with Christian and Jewish communities coexisting peacefully.
From the 1950s, Tangier became a hub for artists and writers from around the world. Famous residents and visitors include Paul Bowles, Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Eugene Delacroix, and Henri Matisse. Celebrities like The Rolling Stones, Barbara Hutton, and Malcolm Forbes have also graced this vibrant city.
Tangier is modernizing rapidly, with new 5-star hotels, a business district (Tangier City Center), airport expansions, a new soccer stadium, and the high-speed train linking Tangier to Casablanca in under 2 hours.
